Corinthians crowned Copa do Brasil champions

Historic win secures third title for Timão

Goals from Giuliano and Róger Guedes seal victory over Flamengo

São Paulo, Brazil – Sport Club Corinthians Paulista were crowned Copa do Brasil champions on Thursday night, defeating Flamengo 2-0 in the second leg of the final at the Maracanã Stadium.

With the victory, Corinthians secured their third Copa do Brasil title, adding to their triumphs in 1995 and 2002. The win also marked their first major trophy since winning the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A in 2017.

The match was a closely contested affair, with both teams creating chances throughout the 90 minutes. However, it was Corinthians who took the lead in the 15th minute through Giuliano. The Brazilian midfielder pounced on a loose ball inside the Flamengo penalty area and fired a low shot past goalkeeper Hugo Souza.

Flamengo pushed for an equalizer in the second half, but Corinthians defended resolutely and doubled their lead in the 59th minute through Róger Guedes. The forward latched onto a through ball from Renato Augusto and finished calmly past Souza.

The win was a major triumph for Corinthians coach Vítor Pereira, who took charge of the team in February. The Portuguese tactician has quickly turned Corinthians into a force to be reckoned with, and he will be hoping to continue their success in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A and the Copa Libertadores.

For Flamengo, the defeat was a bitter pill to swallow. The Rio de Janeiro giants were aiming to win their fourth Copa do Brasil title in five years, but they were ultimately outplayed by a determined Corinthians side.
