Southwest Airlines Flight 1380: Engine Failure Sparks Panic

Passengers Recount Their Terrifying Experience

A federal investigation is underway after a Southwest Airlines flight plunged toward the ocean off the coast.

On April 17, 2018, at about 11:03 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time, Southwest Airlines Flight 1380, a Boeing 737-7H4, experienced a left engine failure while flying at an altitude of 30,000 feet. The plane was en route from New York City to Dallas when the incident occurred.

Passengers reported hearing a loud explosion and seeing flames coming from the left engine. The plane then began to descend rapidly, losing over 3,000 feet in altitude in less than a minute.

The pilot was able to regain control of the aircraft and land it safely at Philadelphia International Airport. There were no injuries reported among the 149 passengers and crew members on board.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the incident. The NTSB is looking into the cause of the engine failure and will issue a report on its findings.
